Position Summary

The Director of Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the company’s safety and health programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies. This role provides strategic leadership to promote a culture of safety across all construction projects and corporate operations, aiming to eliminate workplace injuries and ensure operational excellence.

Job Responsibilities

    • Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive safety management system across all job sites.
    • Develop and build professional relationships with internal stakeholders, client project teams and client safety professionals.
    • Lead, supervise, train, and mentor a team of safety coordinators.
    • Monitor compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other relevant safety regulations.
    • Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments; provide corrective action plans.
    • Serve as the primary liaison for all safety-related matters with clients, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
    • Analyze safety metrics and incident trends to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Oversee the investigation of incidents, near misses, and safety violations; prepare reports and ensure timely corrective measures.
    • Coordinate and facilitate company-wide safety meetings, training sessions, and toolbox talks.
    • Review project-specific safety plans and ensure subcontractor alignment with company safety standards.
    • Lead emergency response planning and crisis management activities.
    • Manage safety-related documentation, including policies, permits, and certifications.
    • Support preconstruction teams with safety planning, budget development, and bid documentation.
    • Report key safety performance indicators (KPIs) and improvement plans to executive leadership.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive safety leadership experience in the construction industry, with at least 3 years in a senior or corporate safety management role.
  • Certifications:
    • OSHA 500/501 Trainer Certification (preferred)
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or equivalent credential.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA construction standards, safety codes, and industry best practices.
  • Proven ability to lead safety programs in complex, multi-site construction environments.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Analytical and data-driven approach to performance measurement and improvement.
  • Ability to respond effectively under pressure and manage crisis situations.
  • Proficiency in safety management systems and digital reporting tools.
