Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated individual looking to join an exciting and diverse team of estimators. This is a tremendous opportunity for an individual who wants to join a specialty contractor that performs work on many of the largest construction projects in the Northeast. The candidate must be good with numbers and have excellent spatial reasoning abilities. Position also requires customer interaction at a very high level. Good customer service and customer support will be needed to be successful in this position.
This opportunity will be based out of our Ewing, NJ location.
Job Responsibilities
- Read and understand the drawings thoroughly (including Architectural, MEP, landscape, civil drawings).
- Read all required specifications and bulletins as they relate to EDA’s scope of work.
- Take lead on estimating when you have multi-scope project. Coordinate with other team members for their scope.
- Initiate the conversation with the customer when you have an opportunity (before/during/after bid). Communicate your observations, deviation and questions. Build relationships with all customers through personal interaction and service.
- Perform detailed orientated take-offs of ALL aspects of EDA’s capabilities. Take-offs must be well organized.
- Visit job walk throughs. Attend Pre-bid meetings when scheduled. Represent EDA in a professional manner.
- Contact vendors and suppliers for pricing. Provide enough information to get the correct quote. Share specifications and drawings when needed. Organize quotes properly.
- Organize estimating worksheets to allow all members of EDA to review. Take-off and worksheets need to be clear and concise. Make an accurate estimate by considering all the aspects of the project. Go through the scope of work provided by GC. Make sure to include alternates (If any).
- Create an efficient system that will allow you to maximize your efforts in producing proposals. Submit well organized and professional proposals that clearly define the inclusions and exclusions of EDA’s scope of work.
- Schedule bid review with senior or team lead estimator. Be prepared with all the questions. Plan. Avoid last moment rush for the review. Attempt to prepare proposals at least one day before the bid due date. Manage your schedule and request review at least one day before the bid due date.
- Submit bids in a timely manner. Respect the due dates.
- Maintain an accurate log that details follow-up phone calls OR Email to submitted proposals. Be consistent in your follow-ups.
- Sign off and review ALL contracts that are awarded to EDA via your proposal. Send an acknowledge email to GC. Review contracts thoroughly for scope of work. Coordinate with customers if you have any corrections.
- Prepare start-up notes and all handover documents.
- Organize and schedule project start-up meeting with operations. Be prepared to properly explain EDA’s scope of work to the Project Management team.
- Follow the progress of each of your projects. Be prepared to assist your project managers in avoiding potential problems and fixing existing issues.
- To keep up the volume of the work, adopt a capacity to bid on at least 3-4 Projects in a week.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient with MS based office software applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Preferred to have 0-2 years of experience in estimating for at least one trade. (Wall panel system, Roofing, Masonry, Glazing and Historic Restoration).
- Must have competent math skills.
- Must have the knowledge to read and understand Architectural blueprints such as Plans, Sections, Elevations and Details.
- Proficient in reading and understanding the specifications and other contract documents.
- Must have a knowledge of computer software such as Onscreen or Bluebeam which can provide detailed takeoff of the quantities and scope of work required by the customer.
- Must be able to travel and visit job sites as needed.
- Must be competent in communication with customers.
- Must be willing and able to work within a team concept structure of sharing and learning.
- Must have a positive approach and be willing to accept the changes/challenges.
- Must be familiar with construction/contract terms such as RFI, Descope, Scope of work, Logistics, Liquidated/consequential damages, Close-out etc.
- Must become familiar with and follow EDA estimating best practice process and procedure.
- Must be good and consistent in customer relationship. Should represent EDA in professional manner.
