Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated individual looking to join an exciting and diverse team of estimators. This is a tremendous opportunity for an individual who wants to join a specialty contractor that performs work on many of the largest construction projects in the Northeast. The candidate must be good with numbers and have excellent spatial reasoning abilities. Position also requires customer interaction at a very high level. Good customer service and customer support will be needed to be successful in this position.

Job Responsibilities

    • Thoroughly read all project drawings (Architectural, MEP, Landscape, Civil) and bid documents. Coordinate with assistants for clarification as needed.
    • Review all relevant specifications and bulletins. Identify any deviations or qualifications in your proposal. Prepare RFIs when necessary.
    • Take ownership of multi-scope projects. Coordinate with other estimators and aim to submit all packages in a single communication.
    • Proactively communicate with customers before, during, and after bids. Build strong, service-oriented relationships.
    • Perform accurate and organized quantity take-offs for all scopes within EDA’s capabilities.
    •  Participate in walk-throughs and meetings. Represent EDA professionally and gather project-specific insights.
    • Reach out to vendors for quotes, providing them with the necessary documents. Organize and track all pricing received.
    • Prepare clear, concise estimating worksheets that reflect all project aspects, including alternates and GC scope.
    • Develop high-quality, organized proposals that clearly outline inclusions, exclusions, and EDA’s scope of work.
    • Schedule timely reviews with a senior or lead estimator. Plan ahead and finalize proposals in advance of bid deadlines.
    • Submit all bids by the due date, reflecting EDA’s professionalism and reliability.
    • Maintain a follow-up log for all submitted proposals. Seek feedback to understand EDA’s standing in the market.
    • Carefully review and sign off on awarded contracts. Coordinate with the GC and EDA’s legal team as needed.
    • Prepare start-up notes and documents. Schedule and lead handoff meetings with Operations to ensure a smooth transition.
    • Create a Schedule of Values (SOV) and clean up estimating spreadsheets for project budgeting.
    • Stay informed on project progress. Support Project Managers in addressing challenges and improving future bids.
    • Maintain the capacity to bid 3–4 projects per week. Level I Estimators will focus on Level 1 and Level 2 complexity projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Proficient with MS based office software applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Must have competent math skills.
  • Must have the knowledge to read and understand Architectural blueprints such as Plans, Sections, Elevations and Details.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding the specifications and other contract documents.
  • Must have a knowledge of computer software such as Onscreen or Bluebeam which can provide detailed takeoff of the quantities and scope of work required by the customer.
  • Must be able to travel and visit job sites as needed.
  • Must be competent in communication with customers.
  • Must be willing and able to work within a team concept structure of sharing and learning.
  • Must have a positive approach and be willing to accept the changes/challenges.
  • Must be familiar with construction/contract terms such as RFI, Descope, Scope of work, Logistics, Liquidated/consequential damages, Close-out etc.
  • Must become familiar with and follow EDA estimating best practice process and procedure.
  • Must be good and consistent in customer relationship. Should represent EDA in professional manner.
