Job Summary

The Accounting Manager will oversee and manage all operational accounting functions, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable (cash applications and collections), and billing.  Additionally, you will oversee and direct functions within the accounting team, as well as manage employees and supervise their work to ensure continuous improvement in efficiency while maintaining a supportive working environment.  The Accounting Manager will work directly for the Director of Finance and will manage 4-6 accounting professionals.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Hands on experience managing multiple accounting functions and operations such as accounts payable, accounts receivable (cash applications and collections), and billing. 
  • Oversee Accounts Payable operations to ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and expense reports.
  • Oversee new vendor setup and maintenance including the credit application process, establishing net terms, and processing of year-end 1099’s
  • Management and oversight of effective monthly vendor statement reconciliations
  • Manage the accounts receivables process, including billing, cash applications, payment collections, and reconciliations.
  • Manage and oversee all monthly billing; review contract specifications, and ensure all pertinent billing and compliance information is completed
  • Manage billing volume amongst Billing clerks, track billing volume and provide internal and external support and problem solving. 
  • Oversee the accurate and timely application of incoming payments to customer accounts
  • Monitor aging reports and follow up on overdue accounts to ensure timely payment collections
  • Analyze process workflows to optimize operations, implement best practices, enhance efficiencies and drive automation initiatives.
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the operational accounting functions.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.

Additional Functions:

  • Lead and manage a team of 4-6 accounting professionals, providing guidance, support, setting performance goals, conducting regular performance evaluations, and promoting professional development. 
  • Assist the Director of Finance with development and maintenance of organization accounting policies and procedures by reviewing and updating policies and procedures to ensure they reflect the current needs of the organization and comply with all applicable statues and regulations. 
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as operations, through ongoing proactive regular contact, surveying, issue resolution and follow up on service delivery related to account payable, accounts receivable, and billing accountabilities. 
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting a culture of accountability and excellence.       

Requirements, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Prior Construction Billing Experience is required.
  • 3-5 years of experience as an accounting manager, finance manager, or related role.
  • Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Proven time management, prioritization, and multitasking abilities.
  • Effective communication, including speaking, writing, and active listening.
  • Robust data analysis and modeling skills; experienced in Excel.
  • Proficient in accounting and payroll software (ComputerEase).
  • Methodical about analyzing processes and systems to understand their functions fully.
  • Proactive research skills used in seeking out opportunities to advance and improve business practices.
