#Duckumentary - Thomas Davis

Today we speak with Estimator, Thomas Davis!

What do you do here at EDA?
I’m a wall panel estimator, and I work closely with my team lead, Rob. My job involves reviewing plans, performing takeoffs, and ensuring our estimates are accurate so everything starts off on solid footing.

What’s your favorite thing about working with your team or department?
The Estimating Department is super collaborative! Everyone is willing to jump in and help, which makes the work environment supportive and enjoyable.

Outside of work, do you have any favorite activities or hobbies?
I travel to Cape May, NJ pretty regularly and love taking trips to the mountains whenever I can. I enjoy fishing—it’s great for clearing my mind. I also like painting and drawing.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given related to your job or career?
Stay patient and trust the process. The work is always better when you take the time to get it right.

What’s one thing you never leave home without?
A bottle of water. I’m definitely one of those people who carries one everywhere. Staying hydrated is just part of my routine at this point.

Cats or dogs? Why?
Dogs. I have a 2-year-old Bernedoodle named Jack, and he’s pretty much my whole world.

What is your favorite part of your job?
I really enjoy collaborating with the team and seeing projects come to life. It’s rewarding to watch something you worked on turn into a real structure.

If you were planning your favorite meal, what’s on the menu?
Turkey dinner. I’m a big Thanksgiving fan, so that meal is always at the top of my list.

How do you stay updated on industry trends and advancements? Are there any recent developments that have caught your attention?
I’m pretty active on LinkedIn and keep up with ENR to stay informed. One development that really stands out to me is the rise of automation in construction. Robotic equipment and automated fabrication are speeding up how buildings can be assembled, and it’s exciting to see how fast the industry is evolving.

What’s your proudest accomplishment, either in your professional or personal life?
I’m proud of pushing myself outside my comfort zone. Taking on new challenges, learning new skills, and growing from each experience has been a big accomplishment for me.
