#Duckumentary - Kim Killion

Today we speak with BBCI's Safety Coordinator, Kim Killion!

Kim Killion is the Safety Coordinator for Bregenzer Brothers Company Inc - An EDA Company.

What did you do before your time at EDA/BBCI?

Prior to joining EDA/BBCI, I was a 5th grade Math and Science Teacher.

What brought you to the construction industry?

Construction always intrigued me because of the various opportunities it has to offer. Ultimately, my brother (who used to work at EDA) was the one who brought me into construction.

Can you briefly explain what you do at EDA/BBCI?

I am the Safety Coordinator at BBCI. I plan, implement, and oversee the company’s employee safety at work.

What are some things that most people don't know about you?

I played Division II basketball for a very successful program. After graduating, I was an assistant basketball coach for my former team. During my first-year coaching, we won 32 straight games, went 18-0 in conference play, and was inducted into the CACC Hall of Fame. Another thing most people don’t know about me is I lost a little over 80lbs in a year, and I have bulldog Pitbull mix who runs my house!

If you weren’t in the construction industry, where would you be today?

If I wasn’t in the construction industry, I would be working in the IT industry, tutoring, or coaching.

If you could work in any other trade or department here at EDA/BBCI, where would you be?

I really enjoy safety so leaving that would be hard, but I would be open to working in any of the departments we have. I love learning new things and implementing them to be successful. Plus, it would be cool to see how each department works and how they are all intertwined for each project.

What is the biggest challenge you've faced in work? How did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge I’ve faced at work is being a woman in a male dominated industry. To overcome this challenge, I had to be confident, have a positive attitude, and build trust with everyone.

Another challenge I’ve faced is my older brother who used to work here giving me a bad name! Unfortunately, there’s no overcoming a brother like that! 😂

What has been the best part about your experience working with EDA/BBCI?

The best part about my experience working with EDA/BBCI is the family-like atmosphere where the work that you do is appreciated.

What is your favorite EDA value, and why?

My favorite EDA value is Strive to Improve because as a person we should always want to be better than we were the day before. There is always something new to learn and grow from.
