What’s your favorite thing about working with your team/department?
The engagement of others and their willingness to help.
Outside of work, do you have any favorite activities or hobbies?
Fishing is a lot of fun, although I don’t get out as much as I would like. I also enjoy starting my day with a trip to the gym. I used to think I couldn’t go in the mornings, but I just decided to try it, and now it’s part of my routine.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given relating to your job/career?
There are many great pieces of advice I’ve received over the years, but one that stands out is from Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink:
“Implementing Extreme Ownership requires checking your ego and operating with a high degree of humility. Admitting mistakes, taking ownership, and developing a plan to overcome challenges are integral to any successful team.”
Also, “Do everything without complaining or arguing” – Philippians 2:14. Another favorite is: “Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success” – Proverbs 15:22.
And “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord” – Colossians 3:23.
What’s one thing you never leave home without?
Hmmm… my keys, lol! Or maybe a drink—gotta stay hydrated!
What do you do here at EDA?
I develop estimates for our customers, focusing on exterior cladding, such as metal wall panels.
Cats or dogs? Why?
Dogs! When I was younger, my mom got me a cat, but it hated me and eventually ran away. Dogs, on the other hand, always seem to love me, and the feeling is mutual!
What is your favorite part of your job?
Reviewing the drawings and specs to solve the puzzle. Every project is unique, which keeps it exciting.
If you were planning your favorite meal, what’s on the menu?
It’s hard to pick just one, but Chicken Marsala is definitely a favorite. Honestly, I’ll eat anything my wife makes—it’s always fantastic!
How do you stay updated on industry trends and advancements, and are there any recent developments that have caught your attention?
I rely on the estimating team around me, attend webinars and in-person events, participate in lunch-and-learns, and sign up for manufacturer newsletters. Recently, at the AIA Philadelphia, I learned about an insulated sheathing product that allows you to attach exterior cladding directly to it, eliminating the need to fasten into stud framing behind it.
What's your proudest accomplishment, either in your professional or personal life?
I’m most proud of being married for 17 years and raising two beautiful girls. For me, family is everything, and it’s important to spend quality time together doing the things we enjoy. Professionally, I’m also proud of being with one company for 15 years. It has a certain ring to it. I’m looking forward to making it 20 years at EDA!
