#Duckumentary - Mitch Ruthberg

Today we speak with Senior Roofing Advisor, Mitch Ruthberg!

What do you do here at EDA?
I’m a team leader and estimator. My goal is to help expand and grow our roofing division.

What’s your favorite thing about working with your team or department?
Sharing my 45 years of experience. Teaching our estimators that estimating is an art, not just a science.

Outside of work, do you have any favorite activities or hobbies?

  • I’m a drummer and percussionist and have played in bands since I was 15.
  • I love baseball and have been a huge Mets fan since 1962.
  • My wife and I love spending time with our family and friends.

What’s the best piece of advice you have been given relating to your job or career?
Maintain your integrity. Take responsibility for your mistakes and learn from them. A good education means nothing if you don’t follow your gut.

What’s one thing you never leave home without?
My wedding ring.

Cats or dogs? Why?
Dogs. They can get into your heart and soul if you let them.

What is your favorite part of your job?
I still get a charge when I land a job and it’s a success. It’s also an honor to be part of the growth of our younger people and to know that I’ve played a small role in their success.

If you were planning your favorite meal, what’s on the menu?
My wife is an amazing cook. She makes the best ribs or meat loaf, with sweet potatoes and roasted vegetables.

How do you stay updated on industry trends and advancements, and are there any recent developments that have caught your attention?
We used to read industry and trade magazines. Now we get everything via email. The best way is to build relationships with manufacturer reps and to participate in demonstrations and live learning sessions with them.

What’s your proudest accomplishment, either in your professional or personal life?
I’ve been blessed with success and good fortune, but I’ve been through some rough times too. I’m proud to know that I have a wife, family and friends who love me and that I’ve met some great people throughout my career who were always rooting for me.
