#Duckumentary - Austin Deaver

Today we speak with Senior Safety Coordinator, Austin Deaver!

What do you do here at EDA?
I work as a senior safety coordinator.

What’s your favorite thing about working with your team or department?
My favorite thing about working with my team is coming up with new, creative ways to ensure safety in the field. I care deeply about people and love making sure everyone here is safe and can go home to their families the same way they came to work.

Outside of work, do you have any favorite activities or hobbies?
My favorite hobby is being bad at golf. I don’t know why I continue to torture myself, but I’m addicted to it. One day I will be Tiger Woods. I also enjoy trying new breweries.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given relating to your job or career?
I can’t pick just one, but my grandpa is my hero and the person I go to for all advice. I swear you can bring up something random like table tennis, and he’ll have a wealth of knowledge that blows you away.

What’s one thing you never leave home without?
I never leave home without kissing my wife and dog goodbye.

Cats or dogs? Why?
Dogs, no doubt. Dogs will be beside you and be your best pal through anything. Cats are super suspect—I think they’re plotting to take over the world.

What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is being on the move daily and seeing new places. I love that every day is different. Even if I’m going to a site I’ve been to before, it’s different every time I show up because our workers are out there kicking butt.

If you were planning your favorite meal, what’s on the menu?
I would go all in on my grandma’s fruit salad recipe. It’s so good, I could eat it every day.

How do you stay updated on industry trends and advancements, and are there any recent developments that have caught your attention?
I stay tuned in with OSHA’s website and regularly check their news releases.

What’s your proudest accomplishment, either in your professional or personal life?
My proudest accomplishment is marrying my beautiful wife. She’s an absolute smoke show, and how I locked that down, I don’t know—but it’s worth celebrating.
