What’s your favorite thing about working on your crew?
Being a superintendent, I get to work with several crews, teams, and personalities, giving me many different opportunities. I learn new leadership skills that are adjusted to each individual and the team, as well as strategies for approaching different types of projects.

If you won the lottery, what’s the first thing you would do with your winnings?
I would hire a financial advisor immediately.

How do you stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and safety protocols?
I check manufacturer websites, talk in the field with architects, consultants, design professionals, and technical representatives, and follow companies and professionals on LinkedIn.

Outside of work, what are some of your hobbies or interests?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family playing video games, playing with my grandchildren, and working with my grandson on his baseball skills.

What’s one thing you personally must have with you on a job site?
Coffee and humility.

Cats or dogs? And why?
Dogs, because they tend to have warmer personalities and are usually excited to see you walk through the door—even if you’ve only been gone for 10 minutes. Also, cats are not very good at playing fetch.

What’s the best piece of advice you’d give an apprentice—or what’s the best piece of advice you received as an apprentice?
Pay attention, learn, work steadily and consistently, be reliable, and never doubt that you can achieve any goal you set your mind to if you remain disciplined and determined.

Is there anything else about you, your family, or your home life that you would like to share?
Before shifting my focus to the construction industry, I played bass guitar in several rock bands. That gave me the opportunity to play at venues like the Stone Pony and Starland Ballroom, opening for professional acts and even having a live set air on the radio.

Can you share one new thing you’ve learned on the job or a best practice that helps save you time, energy, or keeps you safer on the job?
Control what you can control, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

How do you manage stress and maintain a positive mindset in a high-pressure environment like construction?
On the job, I try to remind myself that as much as I want to control everything, that’s an unrealistic goal. Off the job, I like to exercise. Pushing myself physically while listening to music takes my mind off everything for a while.
