We're wrapping up National Veterans and Military Families Month by celebrating the contributions from our EDA Family veterans.

How long have you worked in the construction industry? How did you get your start?

I’ve been doing construction work for over 23 years. After leaving the Navy, my friend got me a job for a small General Contractor. I did everything from pushing the broom, driving with deliveries, to framing and basic commercial building.

When did you join the military, and what motivated you to serve in the Navy?

I was doing the college thing and wanted to do something “exciting “. One day I went to see a recruiter, who turned out to be a pretty good salesman. The sign on bonus sucked me into a field that I had no idea about. After boot camp they crammed in a lot of information in a small amount of time. After A-school, the Navy had a brand-new Gas Turbine Electrician! I was in the service for 3 years.

How does EDA stand out among the other companies you’ve worked at?

Different, for sure. It’s a very good company to work for, especially in the construction field. It’s a “unicorn “. I've already been with EDA for 40 months... longer than I was with the Navy!

How do you believe EDA can better support veterans?

Hire them. There is a Helmets to Hardhats program in the Union. I think everyone should just give vets a chance.

Why do you think veterans are highly desirable candidates for employment?

Vets are disciplined, and a little more durable.

What lessons have stayed with you from your service in the military?

Everything has an end. No matter how hard or long something may seem, it will be over. Pay attention to detail. Work as a team, and if everyone does their part the workload is easier. Don’t leave your buddy behind. Respect other people’s time. We don’t have enough of it. Stand for what you believe is right.
