What did you do before your time at EDA?

Before coming to EDA, for five years I assisted in training Air Force service members through the 421st Combat Training Squadron out of Joint Base McGuire Dix Lakehurst in New Jersey.

What brought you to the construction industry?

I was fortunate enough to be offered my position with no construction expectations.

Can you briefly explain what you do at EDA?

Here at EDA I am the Human Resources Assistant, there are several related administrative tasks I complete daily. However, over the past eight months I have taken a larger role in the recruitment process and implemented new processes with onboarding.

What are some things that most people don't know about you?

I'm a Marine Corps veteran, I married my husband twice (he really wanted his big day), and we have four children (three of them foster children).

If you weren’t in the construction industry, where would you be today?

My title and career path do not tie me to any specific industry, in many other industries Human Resources has been well established. Personally, I would like to continue my work in the construction industry to further promote the benefits we can offer at every level in the organization.

If you could work in any other trade or department here at EDA, where would you be?

I really enjoy physical labor and the satisfaction of seeing a completed project, therefore I think I would want to work in the field. Learn some new skills.

What is the biggest challenge you've faced in work? How did you overcome it?

Figuring out the process, what I have learned is that there is a process in place for most of the work completed in the office but not everyone adheres to it. This is an issue within Human Resources because there are some requirements to ensure we are compliant with state and federal laws. I strive to keep my own processes for hiring, onboarding, and offboarding uniformed, this has helped streamline the process and stay up to date with new laws.

What has been the best part about your experience working with EDA?

Engagement opportunities with people in different departments, in the shop, or in the field through my work or the annual events such as the Town Halls.

What is your favorite EDA value, and why?

“Smile, laugh, enjoy life”. Having a positive mindset lessens stress levels and can lead to a happier/fulfilling life.
