Construction Suicide Prevention Week: Building Connection Together

Written by Admin | Sep 10, 2025 1:39:39 PM

The CDC has long identified construction as one of the leading industries impacted by suicide among men. This sobering reality highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in our field. Five years ago, leaders across the construction industry came together to launch Construction Suicide Prevention Week, a national movement dedicated to raising awareness and equipping companies with resources to support their workforce.

Each year, the campaign highlights a different theme. In 2025, the focus is on community and connection. As the organizers remind us: “Every day, construction workers build roads, homes, bridges, schools, churches and so much more. They build places of connection … for others. But in building for others, they can also build community for one another.”

At EDA Contractors, we are committed to building that sense of community on our own jobsites and within our teams. Along with emphasizing emotional intelligence, we promote a culture of safety and openness where employees are encouraged to ask for help and support one another. Supporting one another can start with small actions such as checking in on a coworker, starting a genuine conversation, or showing a teammate that they are not alone.

By strengthening our connections, we can take meaningful steps toward preventing suicide in construction and ensuring that those who build places of connection for others feel supported themselves.
